Why the Lotus Flower?
You may be wondering why I chose to have a lotus flower on my webpage. When I worked in the prison setting, I ran a Positive Psychology group. This group manual had a picture of a lotus flower on the cover. I was curious as to why this picture was chosen; so I did some research into the meaning behind the lotus flower. What I found was beautiful and symbolic of the work done throughout therapy. I am very happy to share this meaning with you below.
The lotus flower starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the water’s surface continually moving towards the light. Once it comes to the surface of the water the lotus flower begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower.
Like the flower, individuals can find themselves in the muddy, yucky dirty bottom of the pond. They are in the process of rising above the mud and muck to reach the surface. They will eventually rise above their difficulties and hard times to have a more positive and enjoyable life. The lotus flower represents the hard times in life that have been overcome.
